High-Speed Air Bushings
Allow 300 Inches Per Second Motion
(Aston, PA) --- Floating on a film of pressurized air, New WayR air bushings allow speeds in excess of 300 ins./second. These non-contact bushings provide smooth, silent operation with virtually zero wear. Air bushings eliminate problems with recirculation at high speeds and slippage at high acceleration commonly found with rolling element bearings.
New WayR air bushings are designed to make air bearing technology readily available to engineers who have pre-existing designs based on round shaft guides. The bushings run on standard precision steel shafting and are directly interchangeable with most similar rolling element bearings. Bushings are mounted within a housing or bore via O-rings that are compliant enough to allow self-alignment. In applications where higher stiffness is required, the bearing may be set in-place by a
precision potting procedure. Standard mounting housings are available for easy assembly of custom stages. Completed stages are also available.
New WayR bushings do not require lubrication. In dusty environments (i.e., dry machining), the guide ways remain dry and the bearings are self-cleaning clean because the air pressure pushes dust away. By contrast, dust on oil-lubricated ways becomes a lapping slurry.
New WayR air bushings are ideal for voice coil or linear motor-driven stages. Any motion application that requires high speeds, low friction, smooth motion, or oil-free operation is a candidate for New WayR air bushings. Available in 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" sizes, and compatible metric sizes.
